Biography

C.C. DeVille was born on May 14th, and grew up in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn, New York. The 1st concert he ever went to see was KISS. He describes himself as loud, fast talking and obsessive. He likes guitars so much that he owns at least 300 of them, including many from his endorsements from the B.C. Rich and Ibanez guitar companies! C.C. says "My first guitar was a $27 Kawai, a two pickup guitar. I still have it. It's an heirloom. I can look at it and recall really good times." Some of C.C.'s favourite bands growing up were The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Aerosmith, Van Halen, and Cheap Trick, with favourite albums including Rocket To Russia by the Ramones, and Heaven Tonight by Cheap Trick. He says he is also influenced by fusion players like Al DiMeola and John McLaughlin. Other infuences and players he draws inspiration from are Jeff Beck, Lee Pickens of Bloodrock, Jimmy Page, Roy Buchanan, Les Paul, Edward Van Halen, and Eric Johnson.
Some of C.C.'s earliest live performances was playing Johnny B. Goode in the talent show during his time at McKinley Junior High School. Then later on, when C.C. decided that he was gonna give it his all and try to make it big as a rock star, he moved out west to Los Angeles where he played in a few bands, including ones called "Screaming Mimi", "Lace Slip", and "St. James". He is also rumored to have even been the guitarist in Stryper before they did the religious angle. Finally, he hooked up with POISON when then guitarist, Matt Smith, vacated the guitar player spot, leaving it open for C.C. to make his very own. Says C.C., "I had seen them play at the Troubador and they were very exciting. They had a great show. They had put an ad in the local paper for a guitar player and they auditioned a lot of guys. When I answered it, I said, ‘Stop looking, you've got your guy.' " The position was down to C.C. and Slash. And the rest is history!

Quotes

CC Deville: Addiction is a symptom of not growing up. I know people think it's a disease... If you have a brain tumor, if you have cancer, that's a disease. To say that an addiction is a disease is not fair to the real diseases of the world.

CC Deville owns 275 guitars.

CC describes himself as loud, fast talking, obsessive, and digs guitars.  When CC Deville was 18 he formed the band "Lace in New york".  C.C. guest starred on the television series, South of Nowhere, as a rich father of a rock star named Raif Davies. His character was killed off on the second season opener.  C.C. climbed back onto the Billboard charts in 2006 with Poison's release of The Best Of Poison: 20 Years Of Rock debuting at #17. The album celebrates their 20th anniversary as a band, and they followed up it's release with a United Stated tour.  C.C. has been defending his name for years, against those who insist that his name DeVille means 'devil' in French, and that he performs as a 'dark minion'.  C.C's ex-girlfriend Shannon Malone is claiming that the baby that she is pregnant with is C.C.'s child. Shannon got pregnant while her and C.C. were broken up, and he was away on tour, so it broke his heart, he is requesting a paternity test. Shannon moved back to live with her parents in Philadelphia in October 2006, and C.C. remained in Los Angeles.  C.C.'s 9 minute guitar solo was voted the worst of all time by Guitar World magazine's '100 Worst Riffs, Licks, & Solos of all Time'. The article went on to call his guitar playing completely devoid of taste, structure, or steady tempo.  C.C. hit a parked car on August 24, 2005, while backing out of his girlfriend's driveway. He rammed into the other vehicle, deploying his vehicle's airbags and injuring his girlfriend. He later plead 'no contest' to a charge of driving under the influence causing injury, and was sentenced to 80 days in jail. In addition, he was placed on 5 years of supervised probation and fined $1,000. His license was also revoked for a year.  C.C.'s favorite artists include: Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Albert Lee, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.  C.C. played lead guitar as a guest on hard rock band Motorhead's song 'God Was Never On Your Side', from the album Kiss Of Death.  C.C. was the inspiration for C.C. Banana, an improv comic who dressed up as a large banana, while impersonating DeVille. The comedian has since moved on to impersonate and parody other celebrities.  C.C., bass player Krys Baratto and drummer Francis Ruiz formed the band Samantha 7. The band's name was inspired by C.C.'s crush on his elementary school teacher, Samantha Severn. Samantha 7 played at Woodstock 1999, and released their self-titled debut album with Columbia Records, in 2000.  C.C. used his hiatus from Poison to perform under the name of 'The C.C. DeVille Experience' on the Son-In-Law soundtrack.  C.C.'s addiction to cocaine and alcohol became a problem with bandmate and friend, Brett Michaels in 1990, causing C.C. to leave the band for an extended period of time.  C.C. played lead guitar in 1990 on Warrant's mega hit 'Cherry Pie', from the album of the same name.  C.C and Brett Michaels wrote most of their debut album in 1986, and it sold over two million copies. The band's second album was written mostly by C.C. alone, and sold eight million copies of Open Up And Say...Ahhh!.  C.C.'s weakness is sweets, he can't resist. So he jogs eight miles each day to be able to keep eating them without the weight gain.  C.C.'s audition with Poison went smoothely with drummer Ricki Rockett and bassist Bobby Dall, when he refused to play the songs given him by the band. Instead, he played his own riff, which angered vocalist Brett Michaels. The riff eventually made it onto their Look What The Cat Dragged In debut album.  C.C.started college at New York University, majoring in Music Theory, but dropped out to move to Los Angeles and start playing in bands. His first few bands before Poison include: Roxx Regime, St James, Screaming Mimi, and Lace Slip.  C.C. formed the band Lace at the age of 18, and took on a highly sexual, 'glam' image. During this time, he wrote the hit song 'Talk Dirty to Me' which would later appear on Poison's first album Look What The Cat Dragged In.  C.C. cites his musical influences as: The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, and Queen.  C.C. grew up in the Bay Ridge are of Brooklyn, New York. At two years old, he started dancing along with the rock music of The Beatles performing on The Ed Sullivan Show, and that ignited his passion for music. He began to play the guitar at age 5, after he was given a $27 Japanese Telecaster copy.  CC was born as Bruce Anthony 'Cecil' Johannesson aka CC DeVille, and is a heavy metal glam rocker. He is the lead singer/guitarist of the bands: Poison, Samantha 7, and Needle Park.
